Award for Institutional Excellence

With suffering and displacement across the Middle East, we often hear talk about the “lost generation” of young people who are growing up without education, safety, stability, or hope for a brighter future. Unite Lebanon Youth Project (ULYP) has distinguished itself by providing all these things and more for a growing number of youth in Lebanon. What began as a project to help Palestinian refugees escape the physical and mental confines of camps across Lebanon, has grown to include impoverished Lebanese youth and, most recently, Syrian refugees.

At their tranquil campus outside of Beirut, Lebanon, ULYP provides a platform for these youth to befriend one another, grow, learn, and work together to realize their potential and create a better future for themselves and their country.

Through preschool classes, summer camps, scholarship programs, and SAT tutoring services, ULYP has reached thousands of vulnerable young people with high quality, comprehensive educational programs. Each child is given a chance to see that success is possible – which is all too frequently an unimaginable reality for the children ULYP serves. ULYP’s many programs meet the diverse needs of students from preschool to college, all of whom are yearning and capable of success, just lacking opportunity. Indeed, one of their most impactful programs awards scholarships for youth who may otherwise have never had the chance to pursue higher education.

The work of this small but mighty organization is driving a paradigm shift away from historical divisions along religious, political, socio-economic, and ethnic fault lines towards a vision for a country that embraces unity in a shared struggle for a better future. Their success stories are changing the way youth see themselves and each other, and in so doing, ULYP is helping to redefine the the future of Lebanon. Their dedication to allowing youth who have seen war and devastation to dream and believe in a better tomorrow, is why we celebrate them by honoring ULYP with the Award for Institutional Excellence at the 2016 Kahlil Gibran Spirit of Humanity Awards Gala, on Tuesday, April 19th in Washington, DC.

Unite Lebanon Youth Project will be honored along with fellow Gibran awardees the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, actor and philanthropist Jamie Farr, and The Honorable Suzanne Sareini at AAIF’s 18th annual Gibran Gala. We hope you will join us too. Please purchase your ticket today.
