Hannah Allam covers foreign affairs for theDC bureau of McClatchy Newspapers, the nation's third-largest newspaper publisher. Allam previously served as McClatchy’s Baghdad bureau chief during the war in Iraq and as Middle East bureau chief in Cairo during the Arab Spring uprisings. Her reporting has won several national awards, including an Overseas Press Club honor and a John S. Knight Gold Medal. She was chair of the international reporting jury for The Pulitzer Prizes in 2015 and is newly elected to the board of the Overseas Press Club of America. She was a 2009 Nieman fellow at Harvard. Allam is Egyptian American and spent her childhood between Oklahoma and the Middle East (Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the UAE).
