Amid political turmoil, Sudan currently stands at a crossroads between a path toward democracy and one toward continued political repression.

Ongoing developments there motivated AAI to host a Congressional briefing titled, "What Can Congress Do to Support Democracy in Sudan?" on August 22, 2019.

The event featured panelists who are researchers, local community advocates and elected representatives, and focused on the latest developments in Sudan.

Panelists provided a context of the protests in Sudan as well as the content of new constitutional documents meant to guide the country through the coming years of transition.

Last, panelists sought to offer concrete actions that Congress can take to support democracy in the country.
