Through comedy, Dean Obeidallah and Maysoon Zayid have not only contributed to changing perceptions about Arab Americans and Muslim Americans, but they've also helped redefine how Arab Americans and Muslim Americans view themselves. Obeidallah and Zaid cofounded the Arab American Comedy Festival in 2003, and since then the festival has gone through a remarkable evolvution. In an interview with Time magazing, Obeidallah reflected on how things have changed, saying the festival's comedians have moved past the  “‘We’re not all terrorists [jokes]’” into something that, years later, is now considered an event that celebrates Arab heritage. “It’s saying, really unapologetically, ‘This is who we are, this is our culture,’ and having a lot more fun with it.”

Running from October 30th through November 1st, Obeidallah and Zayid will kick off their 11th annual festival, featuring more than 25 comedians of Arab heritage from the U.S. and Canada. This year, comedians will include Dean Obeidallah (The Muslims Are Coming!/ABC'sThe View),  Maysoon Zayid (Queen Latifah show), Aron Kader (Comedy Central’s Axis of Evil special),  Mo Amer (Allah Made me Funny tour), Sammy Obeid (Conan O’Brien show), Go Remy (Youtube video sensation), Emad Morgan (Showtime) and many more.
