Whether Sanctuary or 4th Amendment, American Cities Stand for Immigrants

Posted by Ali Albassam on March 28, 2017 in Blog

Attorney General Jeff Sessions took the first steps in fulfilling President Trump’s campaign promise to “defund sanctuary cities” on Monday. In the White House briefing room, Sessions announced that the Department of Justice would "claw back any funds awarded to a jurisdiction" if the Administration believes it is not abiding by federal immigration laws. Despite many media sources depicting Sessions’ announcement as “Breaking News”, the reality is that this is nothing new and may be more of a scare tactic than anything. Urge the New York State Assembly to Protect Free Speech

Posted by Arab American Institute on March 09, 2017 in Blog

Time and again, Congress failed to enact the bill. Despite these fruitless attempts, Senator Cardin has reintroduced this legislation to the 115th Congress with one major update – the necessary inclusion of religion in the bill’s title. On...

Posted by Ali Albassam on February 27, 2017 in Blog

U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.), along with more than two dozen original cosponsors, has re-introduced his legislation to ban discriminatory profiling by all levels of law enforcement nationwide. S. 411, the End Racial and Religious Profiling Act of 2017 (ERRPA), is designed to enforce the constitutional right to equal protection of laws by ensuring policies and procedures are in place for law enforcement to promote best practices. ERRPA also closes existing loopholes in the DOJ Guidance to ensure federal, state, and local agencies responsible for the enforcement of...
