For those in Washington, DC, we’ve heard of another rally to challenge Rep. Peter King’s (R-NY) hearings on “Muslim Radicalization.” As we told you before, Rep. King plans to hold a hearing tomorrow morning on “The Extent of Radicalization in the Muslim Community and That Community’s Response.” Prompted by his announcement, AAI and the Muslim Public Affairs Council stepped up and held a Congressional briefing on Islamophobia: A Challenge to Pluralism. AAI is particularly concerned with the way Rep. King’s hearings target only the Muslim community rather than investigating all forms of extremism. Below are the details for the rally tomorrow:
Time: Thursday, March 10 · 8:00am - 9:30am
Location: Steps of the Cannon House Office Building, Washington DC (east side of 1st St sidewalk)
Following in the footsteps of the successful NYC March 6 rally, we bring you in the same spirit of solidarity a DC RALLY IN SUPPORT OF CIVIL RIGHTS FOR MUSLIM AMERICANS: We join together to protest the targeting of American Muslims & Arabs occurring in that morning's Congressional hearing.
On Thursday March 10, 2011 come join us in support of equitable civil rights for all Americans. We will gather on the steps of the Cannon Hous...e Office Building in Washington, DC at 8:00 am in response to that morning's Congressional hearing led by Peter King (R-LI) that unfairly targets Muslim-Americans.
Like our counterparts in New York City's "Today, I Am a Muslim, Too" March 6 rally, "we will stand together against bigotry caused by anxiety, misinformation, and ignorance, to show Congress a united American community which seeks to strengthen - not dilute - our bonds of friendship and trust. Organizers of this rally believe one can be a loyal Muslim as well as a loyal American without conflict."
