Pennsylvania Arab Americans Launch ’04 Efforts
Posted on Monday June 28, 2004
Washington- Arab American Institute President James Zogby and PA AFL-CIO President William George will join Arab American leaders from throughout Pennsylvania to announce the launch of the Pennsylvania Arab American Leadership Council (PA-ALC) during a press briefing at the State Capitol rotunda on Thursday July 1. The PA-ALC joins bipartisan councils in Florida, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, and Virginia as part of the Arab American national campaign in preparation for the 2004 presidential elections. Pennsylvania is home to over 160,000 Arab Americans who live in 59 of the state’s 67 counties and are poised to make a significant impact in November. Pennsylvania went to Democrat Al Gore by just 4% in the 2000 election, making Pennsylvania an important swing state in 2004. In an April tracking poll of Arab American voters in the key battleground states of Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, and Florida 53% indicated support for presumptive Democratic nominee John Kerry and 28% said they would vote to re-elect President Bush. 19% of Arab American Pennsylvanians indicated that they were not yet sure for whom they would vote in November. The poll was second in a series of tracking polls examining Arab American trends in key states heading into the general election.
