New Jersey Candidates' Night to Host Gubernatorial Campaigns, Attract Hundreds of Arab Americans

Washington- The Arab American Institute (AAI) will hold its 5th annual New Jersey Candidates’ Night on Sunday, October 2, in Newark, New Jersey. The bipartisan event will feature New Jersey’s gubernatorial candidates Doug Forrester (R), and a representative for Senator Jon Corzine (D). The candidates will deliver short statements on Arab American issues and will hold a Q & A session with the audience.

This year, AAI will honor all public officials’ efforts in support of the Arab American community. AAI will also recognize Arab Americans in New Jersey who demonstrate excellence in public service.

For the past four years, Candidate Nights has helped to promote a broad understanding of key issues and better communication between New Jersey’s political candidates and the Arab American community. The 240,000-strong Arab American community, residing in all 21 counties, is a visible political force in the state. For more on AAI’s New Jersey work, please visit www.aaiusa.org/newjersey.htm.

New Jersey is one of two states that will hold gubernatorial races this year. Nationwide, Republicans currently hold a majority of the governorships, outnumbering Democrats by a 28 to 22 margin. Democrats are hoping to avoid any further losses, while Republicans look to maintain their seats. As Arab Americans become more actively involved in the hotly contested gubernatorial race, the community is poised to make a difference in elections this November.
