Newly Created Position will Increase Visibility of State’s Arab American Community
WASHINGTON – Oct. 3, 2006 – The Arab American Institute (AAI) announces the appointment of Kenwah H. Dabaja to the newly created position of Michigan Field Director.
Dabaja, a graduate of the University of Michigan and the University of Detroit’s Mercy School of Law with a Juris Doctor, is a long time community activist in her native Dearborn. She is a member of AAI’s National Policy Council, is a precinct delegate in Michigan’s 15th Congressional District and has been involved in local political campaigns.
“Kenwah’s wealth of experience, grassroots activism, and commitment to the concerns of Arab Americans will be of tremendous value both to AAI and to Michigan’s Arab American community,” said Nidal M. Ibrahim, AAI’s Executive Director.
Dabaja will work to increase political participation by Michigan’s Arab American community through AAI’s bipartisan political empowerment programs. Michigan is home to an estimated 490,000 Arab Americans, the highest concentration of Arab Americans of any U.S. state.
“I look forward to using my knowledge and experience in local politics to bring Michigan’s Arab Americans visibly into the 2006 elections, and to build on the commitment of AAI to our community,” Dabaja said.
