Arab Americans Mobilizing for Lebanon and Palestine

Arab Americans concerned about the devastation in Lebanon and Palestine are planning a National Arab American Lobby Day on Aug. 16 to reach out to Congressional representatives. Additionally, Arab Americans will congregate in Washington, D.C. in September for a National Leadership Conference.

For National Arab American Lobby Day, the Arab American Institute (AAI) is providing a “How To Guide,” talking points and other relevant information to encourage grassroots activists to set up meetings with their local representative and senator to speak about the situation in Lebanon and Palestine as well as other critical issues.

Separately, AAI also is organizing a National Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C. on Sept. 10-12. Titled “Healing the Nation: An Arab American Agenda for Security, Liberty and Peace,” the conference will feature keynote speakers from Congress – including Sen. Russ Feingold (D-WI)—and offer political activists an opportunity to meet with Democratic and Republican Party leaders.

The conference will be attended by hundreds of Arab American leaders from across the nation and will include a ceremony commemorating the fifth anniversary of September 11. A special reception honoring Arab Americans working in the federal government will also take place.

Those interested in taking part in National Arab American Lobby Day can contact AAI via e-mail.
