As a candidate for the 2012 Republican Party presidential nomination, Ron Paul is known as a Republican Congressman whose libertarian views differ from those of his Republican and Democratic peers. He advocates non-intervention in the affairs of other nations while still pursuing open trade and communication, increased border security, and the abolition of birthright citizenship, welfare, and amnesty for undocumented immigrants. He also plans to repeal “ObamaCare” and Roe v. Wade. Paul opposed intervention in Iraq and stated that Iraq had no link to the 9-11 attacks. He believes that the U.S. should allow Israel to be more independent and has voted against support for Israel due to his stance against foreign aid in general. Paul has been one of the most vocal opponents of the government policies that have curtailed the civil liberties of Muslims and has fought against the trend of Islamophobia.
