No Need to Panic

Well, things just got confusing: according to a new poll, Allen West hasn’t only managed to close the 9 point gap in just a week, but is now ahead of his opponent by 12 points. Ok now, either the pollsters are messing with us, or Florida’s 22nd District is home to the most capricious set of voters in the country (we’re ruling out the “bad polling” explanation because it’s too plausible and not funny enough). Read More »

Keeping It Interesting

Depending on which pundit you ask, this debate will change the direction of the race in one direction or the other, or not matter at all (thank you, pundits). Read More »

Like We Haven’t Had Enough

The law, which requires voters to present a photo ID at the polls, was initially upheld in a ruling that cited a legal precedent, from 1869, which advocated implementing a discriminatory registration process in order to avoid placing “the vicious vagrant, the wandering Arabs, the Tartar hordes of our large cities, on a level with the virtuous and good man” (we’re not kidding). Read More »

Secrets and Bombshells

By the way, does Romney know that the Republican Party platform says that it “envision[s] two democratic states” as the solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict? Way to go undermining the Party platform, Mitt. Read More »

Dealing with the Aftermath

So, are the Dems owning up to the mishap, or are they further embarrassing themselves like an 800 pound gorilla attempting to avoid detection by hiding behind a twig? Yes, you guessed it again. Read More »

We Wrote This Countdown Together

We can’t write a Countdown from the Democratic National Convention without addressing the elephant in the room (you know, the one repeatedly yelling “no”), so let’s get straight to it. Read More »

We Built This Countdown

Greetings from Tampa, where the Republican National Convention just wrapped up. This is a special RNC edition of Countdown, which we built ourselves with very hard work and no one can take it from us (but you can still read it). Enjoy! Read More »

Feeding Monsters

Carney recalled how Odysseus chooses to lose several of his men to the six-headed monster rather than lose his entire ship to the whirlpool. In Carney’s version of the epic, as you’ve surely guessed, the constitutional rights of Arab Americans and American Muslims are what must be fed to the six-headed monster to save the ship. Read More »

Hour of Turbulence

While not every attack can be directly traced back to the bigoted rhetoric of politicians, one certainly shouldn’t miss the connection between the rise in these types of incidents and the increase in mainstream acceptance of this rhetoric. We’re not just talking about people being offended anymore; we’re talking about the safety of real people in America. No joke, we urgently need to put a stop to this nonsense. Read More »

Drawing Lines and Kicking Things

Still others, maybe inspired by the Olympics, performed impressive feats of mental and moral gymnastics to avoid having to take a stand. A select few disappointments defended Bachmann’s attacks, but none quite so spectacularly as Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich. Gingrich claimed that Bachmann was “just asking questions,” so apparently you can say whatever slanderous nonsense you want as long as it ends with a question mark. Gingrich may be on to something here, which raises the question: did Gingrich tell Harry Reid that Romney paid no taxes over the last 10 years in order to get back at the Governor for defeating him in the primaries? We’re just asking questions. Read More »

Turning the Tables

“I am fully aware that she [Bachmann] sometimes has difficulty with her facts.” At least he had the kindness to call those things she struggles with “facts” instead of contrivances. Read More »

From Washington to Jerusalem

The Jerusalem Post has reported that Mitt Romney will be hosting a fundraiser in Jerusalem at the end of this month, open to everyone… who can pay $60,000 per plate (which, as we all know, is everyone). Read More »

Divergent Realities

If you’re like us, this happened to you on Thursday morning: you tweeted “BREAKING” news that the Supreme Court just struck down the individual mandate from ObamaCare, then watched 5 minutes of utter confusion engulf social media, followed by another 10 minutes of bad puns being made at CNN’s expense. Yup, in a rush to be the first to break the news, CNN got the ruling wrong, proving that “the most trusted name in news” cannot be trusted (see? we can do bad puns too). Read More »

The irony of it all? Scary extremists who are undermining what America stands for are somehow under the impression that they’re defending America from extremists who are undermining what it stands for. Read More »

Getting Furious Fast

Williamson also said that “in a Romney Administration, an American vice president won’t act like a teenager and keep the elected prime minister of Israel waiting for 45 minutes for dinner, because of a personal pique.” If standing up to Israeli officials when they embarrass American officials or undermine our policy makes one a “teenager,” we’re a little worried about the Romney camp’s conception of maturity. Read More »

Changing How We Fight

If you find TSA screenings at U.S. airports invasive, wait until you hear this: Arab Americans attempting to enter Israel or the Occupied Palestinian Territories are now frequently being forced to open up their emails so Israeli border security can go through their messages and chats. When 42-year old Palestinian American Sandra Tamari refused to log into her Gmail to let Israeli border police go through it, she was expelled from the country. Read More »
