Tired of watching C-SPAN and wanting to throw something at your TV? Senators Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Richard Lugar (R-IN), Chris Dodd (D-CT), and Chuck Hagel (R-NE) have introduced a bipartisan, pro-peace resolution in the Senate and you can help by calling your senators and asking them to add their names as cosponsors.

Senate Resolution 224 is supported by organizations representing the Arab American, Jewish American, and Christian communities and offers a rare opportunity for senators to send a truly positive message of American support to Palestinians and Israelis working towards peace.

Important points in the resolution include:

  • Reaffirming the Senate’s “commitment to a true and lasting solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, based on the establishment of 2 states, the State of Israel and Palestine, living side by side in peace and security, and with recognized borders”;

  • Urging President Bush to appoint a Special Envoy for Middle East Peace and “make a 2-state settlement a top priority”;

  • Welcoming the Arab League Peace Initiative; and

  • Calling “on Israeli and Palestinian leaders to embrace efforts to achieve peace and refrain from taking any actions that would prejudice the outcome of final status negotiations.”

  2. Your active support of a peaceful resolution to the Arab-Israeli conflict is important to your constituents and vital to US interests abroad. In fact, a poll conducted by the Arab American Institute and Americans for Peace Now shows that 94% of Arab Americans and 87% of Jewish Americans support a negotiated two-state solution

  3. Thank you for supporting an initiative that will project American values abroad and will strengthen the efforts of those working for a “true and lasting solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.”
