Rachel Corrie
Posted on Tuesday June 13, 2006
American student Rachel Corrie, 23 was killed March 16, 2003. She was run over by an Israeli bulldozer while peacefully trying to stop it from illegally destroying a Palestinian home in the Rafah refugee camp. Rachel stood in front of the bulldozer in a bright orange jacket, shouting into a megaphone and waving for it to stop.
“You Just Can’t Imagine It Unless You See It”
In these excerpts from an e-mail Rachel sent to her family on February 7, 2003, she writes of how Palestinians are horribly affected by the very Israeli policies, including house demolitions, that ended Rachel’s life. Not knowing she would be killed just five weeks later, she speaks of how fortunate she feels as a US citizen to be immune from the troubles Palestinian face.
