2008 Elections

President-Elect Barack Obama!

President-Elect Barack Obama

This is a proud day, indeed, to be an American.

This is a remarkable and potentially transformative event in our nation’s history. John McCain, in saying that this is a great moment for African Americans, got it half right… This is a great moment for all Americans. We have every reason to be proud in the strength of our democracy. The eyes of the world can look upon our country and once again marvel at what we can achieve.

America is on the cusp of an historic transformation, and each of us can say, “I was there. I witnessed history in the making.”

A message has been sent. America can now become the nation we were meant to be. We will now see ourselves differently, and the world will see us differently, as well. What was especially impressive about this contest was the hope it inspired and the degree to which it energized so many young people, investing them in our political process.

To President-Elect Barack Obama we offer our congratulations, our thanks for his leadership in bringing us to this point, and our support as we roll up our sleeves and work with him to make change.

And to those Arab Americans, young and old, who contributed of their time, energy and treasure—making calls, canvassing door-to-door, and volunteering in so many other ways to achieve this victory—our thanks and congratulations, as well. This is a victory won by many and we are proud that Arab Americans were partners in it.
