For Sept 11 National Day of Service & Remembrance Arab Americans Volunteer at DC Elementary
Washington, DC – On Saturday, September 10, Arab American volunteers will come together in DC to paint and plant for Garfield Elementary at 2435 Alabama Ave SE from 10 am to noon. This effort is part of the September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance promoted by the Corporation for National & Community Service.
Volunteers will be charged with painting school bathrooms as well as resoiling the garden and adding new flowers and plants to school grounds.
“Service, as a tribute to the victims, survivors and responders for 9/11, is among the most meaningful gestures we can make as a community. During this difficult time, when so many face increased bigotry and xenophobia, we are proud to take part in this forward-looking tradition that unites communities in service across all 50 states,” said AAI Executive Director, Maya Berry.
Members of the media are welcome to cover this event. We ask that you please RSVP since it is on school grounds so we can make appropriate arrangements.
