The News is What You Won’t Need on Nov. 6

Posted by AAI at 4:42 pm

Judge Robert Simpson has blocked enforcement of a key portion of Pennsylvania’s voter-ID law. Agreeing that the state is unlikely to issue the necessary number of IDs before the election, Simpson’s ruling means that the photo ID requirement won’t be in effect for the Nov. 6 election, but it may be in effect for future elections.

Acceptable IDs are:

  • Military ID cards
  • U.S. passports
  • Identification cards from accredited Pennsylvania colleges, universities, or state senior care facilities
  • Other photo identification cards issued by the federal, Pennsylvania, county, or municipal governments.
  • Voters who come to the polls without a valid ID may still cast a provisional ballot
  • Voters who cast provisional ballots will not be required to return to their county election board within six days of the election with identification.
  • Proof of identification is still required for absentee voting
