Gov. Rick Scott Declines, Then Agrees, to Write Letter

Posted by Hilary Robertson at 3:20 pm

The Jacksonville Chapter of the American Federation of Ramallah-Palestine recently mobilized after Governor Rick Scott declined their request for a letter welcoming participants to their national convention. Each year the Federation requests a letter from a high-level elected official welcoming the participants to their state. Ron Salem, a member of the AFRP Steering Committee, wrote a letter to the editor at detailing the incident and questioning why Gov. Scott declined. Scott’s office later called to apologize and said it was an “oversight”, issuing the requested letter on Tuesday afternoon. This is a great example of how community organizations can effectively use the media to draw attention to an issue.
