Commemorating World Peace Day With Music

Tomorrow, Wednesday September 21st, is the International Day of Peace, a holiday established by the United Nations in 1981 to commemorate and strengthen the ideals of peace. It’s a good opportunity for many of us to reflect on the many wars and violent conflicts we are currently involved in, and consider the ways in which we can harness the peaceful, democratic message of the Arab Spring to advocate for an end to political violence.

Singer/songwriter Stephan Said is attempting to do just that. His new album, “difrent” debuts tomorrow, and features collaborations with a number of prominent artists including Amadou & Mariam, OAR, Guster, and Warren Hayes. The album aims to “build an international movement for a more equal society” and calls for a “Global Spring” modeled on the dramatic transformations that took place in the Arab Spring.
