“Arab Voices” Available in Paperback

Posted by AAI at 2:44 pm

Last year, AAI President Jim Zogby's book on the Arab world, Arab Voices: What They Are Saying to Us and Why It Matters, was released to major acclaim and brisk sales. This month, Arab Voices came out in paperback with a new section on the Arab Spring. The book, and the polling it is based on, have proved invaluable to many analysts and policy makers as they try to better understand the changes taking place in the region.

Even before the uprisings in the Middle East, the polling data included in Arab Voices provided us with insight on the political and social issues that defined Arab attitudes which ultimately gave way to the protests that changed the Middle East. As nascent governments take shape, a new dynamic is emerging with regard to U.S.-Arab relations--one which gives cause for the U.S. and the West to consider Arab public opinion in foreign policy decisions. An obvious point that we have made for decades but one that was often overlooked. Just as it explained the framework of issues leading up to the Arab Spring, Arab Voices provides us with insight on the attitudes that will shape Arab public opinion in the years to come.
