So no longer is she only alleging that Iran said things they actually didn’t, but now we know “without a shadow of doubt” that the attack will happen, unless we do something about it. That’s the sort of lying that makes the Iraq war propaganda of Bush, Cheney, and Rumsfeld seem like honest straight-talk by comparison. Read More »

One year after the spark of the Arab Spring, we remain inspired by the courageous efforts of ordinary people across the Arab world to rise up and change their countries. In recent months, Arab Americans across the country have engaged in various efforts to change the national narrative on a number of important issues facing our community. In October, a coalition of Arab American organizations launched Yalla Change, a national campaign devoted to bringing about the change we need here at home. Read More »

That’s what William Runco, Wayne County Republican Committee Chair, said about the Gingrich campaign in Michigan. “Romney has put together a great organization in Michigan… But we think we've got the better message.”
Okay. Let’s check it out. Read More »

Today, Congressman Mike Honda (D-CA), who earlier this week wrote a fantastic op-ed in the Washington Post condemning the King Hearings, has officially weighed in on the controversy surrounded Lowe's decision to pull its advertising from TLC's All-American Muslim. Read More »

Last week, Republican Presidential Candidate Newt Gingrich said that the Palestinian people were “an invented people.” Once confronted with those remarks in Saturday’s Republican debate in Iowa, Gingrich did not backtrack, but actually took it a step further, describing the Palestinians as “terrorists”: Read More »

The statement by Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich that Palestinians are an "invented people" is perhaps a new low in the campaign rhetoric of presidential hopefuls.
A review of maps going back to the 16th century – and any serious review of history going back centuries earlier – reveals that Palestine and Palestinians were clearly there. They were a part of the Ottoman Empire, to be sure, but so too were the modern nations of Turkey, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, and even Israel. Read More »

Denying the existence of a people, and denying the existence of a people’s right to identify themselves as such, is a dangerous and familiar rhetorical tool. Read More »

On Saturday December 12, Republican candidates (with the exception of Jon Huntsman) met in Des Moines, Iowa for a debate on issues ranging from job creation to Israel. Below we have pulled the most interesting quotes from the debate regarding immigration and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Some are lengthy, but all are worth the read. Read More »

In mid-November, AAI warned members in Florida and Texas that their states are actually trying to prevent them from voting. It’s a curious project, given that only about 55% of Americans vote anyway. But in fact, states around the country are passing legislation making it harder for people to register and vote, and most Americans don’t know anything about it. The laws impact minorities, students, and senior citizens most profoundly, but to be sure, they’ll impact everyone. Read More »

Today, the Republican Presidential candidates, with the exception of Ron Paul, are in Washington D.C. to speak to a private audience hosted by the Republican Jewish Coalition. At $500 a seat, the RJC 2012 Republican Presidential Candidates’ Forum is no casual affair – it is perhaps the most important chance for these candidates to pander to the far right. Read More »

At times nervously wringing his hands, Rick Perry gave the RJC audience a stilted and rote speech, to lukewarm response. “I want to be clear I support the goal of a Palestinian state,” Perry said before suggesting that “it should be the Palestinians who meet certain pre-conditions.” Read More »

In a remarkable speech notable for its many, many historical and political references, Newt Gingrich told the RJC that he wanted to present a few “politically incorrect” but “factually accurate” statements. “I am very, very worried about our relationship with radical Islam,” Gingrich said, “because it is based on a pack of lies.” Read More »

Michele Bachmann wasted no time addressing the issue of the day during her prepared remarks at RJC 2012. Her prepared statement was the most extreme of the day, combining standard Republican talking points about Israel with almost unfiltered Israeli propaganda – including referring to Palestinians as “Palestinians” (in quotes). It was also completely devoid of any domestic policy at all. Read More »

Huntsman’s performance at the RJC has received lukewarm reviews, and indeed he did not seem to get the warm audience reaction given to Romney, or even Santorum. As the most moderate candidate in the field, Huntsman declared that he would not pander. “I won’t contort myself into pretzels” to win votes, he said, adding that he would not be signing any pledges or attending Donald Trump’s debate. After a pedantic comparison of 9/11 to Pearl Harbor, complete with a “just accept it” take on the current wars in Iraq and Afghanistan (“the long war”), Rick Santorum started in on the topic of the day: US policy in the Middle East. In a veiled reference to the Arab Spring, Santorum argued that “in the entire region now, we see evidence of the President’s policies of ignoring the threat of radical Islam.” Obama was “naďve” to go to Cairo and “invite the quote Islamic world to the table.” Read More »

In today's POLITICO, Ben Smith reports on a rift in the Democratic party with respect to Israel. He writes, "The Center for American Progress, the party’s key hub of ideas and strategy, and Media Matters, a central messaging organization, have emerged as vocal critics of their party’s staunchly pro-Israel congressional leadership and have been at odds, at times, with Barack Obama’s White House.”
AAI president Jim Zogby weighs in on the subject and addresses the issue of whether or not this critical contingent will have any impact on President Obama’s standing among Jewish supporters, evangelicals and others heading into 2012.
