While the candidates performed in the expected order in Florida’s Republican Primary results, the wide gaps between them were a bit surprising. Romney won by a very comfortable margin, earning over 46% of the vote. Gingrich came in at second place with 31.9% of the vote. Santorum had a mere 13.4%, while Paul came in with a shabby 7%. The RNC thinks they just did Israel a favor by whitewashing the illegality of its occupation of the Palestinian territories, but failed to notice that they just demanded that all these Palestinians living under occupation be granted equal rights as Israelis. In effect, the RNC just endorsed the maximalist position of the most ardent supporters of Palestinian rights: the one-state/one-man/one-vote solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Read More »

The GOP has chosen Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels, a public official we’ve praised for his principled stances and success as a public administrator, to deliver the party’s response to the President’s State of The Union address next Tuesday. This morning, we heard the tragic news of twin suicide bombings in Damascus that killed at least 40 people and injured over a hundred, amid ever more valid fears that Syria is probably sliding towards civil war. Meanwhile in Egypt, footage emergedof the brutal beating and shooting of protesters, and one woman suffered a very serious head injury from repeated clubbing by the army’s anti-riot force. In Iraq, a dozen coordinated bombings killed at least 60 people and injured over 200. Could anyone have imagined this climate was less than a year away from the euphoria following Mubarak’s ouster?
