On Friday, December 17, a group of Lebanese Americans met with officials from the Obama administration to discuss the situation in Lebanon in light of the possible impending indictments by the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) for the murder of former Prime Minister Rafik Al Hariri. Already very serious and deadly, today's incident could escalate into a broader conflict, a possibility that all concerned parties should do all they can to avert. Lebanese officials were quoted as favoring a diplomatic resolution to the crisis, and there are no reports of major Israeli troop movements, so this may be a hopeful sign that all parties have sought to observe UNIFIL's call for "maximum restraint."
