When push came to shove in Egypt, and the country stood between complete destabilization and the removal of a President, people around Mubarak were sufficiently coherent to choose country over President. This doesn't appear to be the case with Libya's Muammar Gaddafi. There doesn't seem to be anyone able to bluntly place the full weight of reality over Gaddafi's completely delusional understanding of his relationship to his country and the need for him to step down. The Arab world is no exception; it’s no coincidence that the Egyptian revolution of 1952 coincided with the rise of Arab greats such as Abdel Halim Hafez, Umm Qultum, and Mohammed Abdel Wahab.
