Why Israel’s Blockade on Gaza Must End

Israel’s blockade of Gaza is counterproductive, immoral and illegal. Our government’s position on this flawed and tragic policy must change. We ask policymakers to consider the facts and work with our allies to end this policy. Doing so is in the best interest of the Palestinians, the Israelis, and our own national security interests. Read More »

An Inhumane Blockade

Nearly 1.5 million Palestinians are trapped in Gaza, with 4 out of 5 depending on humanitarian aid agencies for basic necessities. UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon described the suffering inflicted on the people of Gaza by the blockade as “unacceptable.” The blockade’s purpose was not merely to keep weapons out of Gaza, but was deliberately designed to target the civilian population of Gaza, with bans on things like potato chips, soda pops, pasta, and other things that clearly posed no security threat.  Read More »

The Gaza Blockade: Health in Crisis

The health situation in Gaza, already worrisome during the early period of the blockade, was severely exacerbated in the aftermath of Israel’s assault on Gaza in 2008/09 (known as Operation Cast Lead), in which much of Gaza’s infrastructure destroyed with the possibility of repair due to the blockade. Read More »

People Trapped, Economy Strangled

Under the blockade policy, Palestinians are forbidden to leave Gaza except in special cases. Those who can’t leave Gaza include many patients who need to leave for necessary treatment. Movement inside Gaza is also restricted by a unilaterally imposed “buffer zone” along the inside of the walls and fences surrounding Gaza. The buffer zone as enforced goes much deeper into Gaza than publicly acknowledged, taking up “between a quarter and a third of Gaza’s agricultural land.” Read More »

Arabs Don’t Care About Palestine? Don’t Bet On It.

There are bad polls, and then there are bad interpretations of polls. Putting them together (i.e. a bad interpretation of a bad poll) can create a mess of misinformation, which is exactly what the New York Times gave us this morning. Read More »

It’s the Blockade, Stupid

The public relations battle continues on the blockade of Gaza. Having generally completed the “we had to attack the terrorist aboard the humanitarian ships scenario,” the extreme pro-Israeli camp has shifted to “there is no real humanitarian crisis in Gaza anyway.”  Read More »

What an Israeli Official Admits to When His Guard is down

In a stark departure from finely crafted talking points, Israeli Ambassador to the United States, Michael Oren spoke with rare clarity about Israel’s intentions in imposing and maintaining the blockade on Gaza’s 1.5 million people. Appearing on Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report, Oren faced tougher questions from Stephen Colbert than he has gotten from most “serious” news outlets.  Read More »

Lying About The Gaza Flotilla Disaster

It’s been one lie after another in the US media about the Israeli attack on the Gaza-bound relief flotilla. No matter that the Israeli media views the whole incident as a debacle for Israel, in this country the Israel-can-do-no-wrong crowd is on overdrive defending the operation. As usual, facts don’t matter to them. Read More »

Once again Israel’s bad behavior has dug a deep hole for itself, and we’re left debating whether or not to jump in with them. Responsible governments behave responsibly. In its dealings with Gaza over the past 43 years, Israel has been anything but responsible, and we need to clearly distance ourselves from their actions.  Read More »
