Heading into the debate tonight, Romney has a slight edge in the national polls, but Obama maintains his swing state advantage with a 50 point Electoral College spread. Here are some stories to watch for in tonight’s debate. Read More »

Ryan/Biden Debate Shows Both Parties Indistinguishable on Syria

So both Romney and Obama have the same policy position: condemn Assad in the harshest terms, work with allies to support the right elements of the Syrian opposition, but no direct intervention unless there is a drastic development involving the use of chemical weapons or threatening vital American interests. Will that stop the campaigns from using the tragedy in Syria as a partisan foreign policy issue in the election? You bet it won’t. Read More »

The News is What You Won’t Need on Nov. 6

Judge Robert Simpson has blocked enforcement of a key portion of Pennsylvania’s voter-ID law. Agreeing that the state is unlikely to issue the necessary number of IDs before the election, Simpson’s ruling means that the photo ID requirement won’t be in effect for the Nov. 6 election, but it may be in effect for future elections. Read More »

Santorum’s Partisan Take on Obama’s Iran Policy

In NJ-09, Rabbi Shmuley Says He is the “True Pro-Arab Candidate”

In New Jersey’s newly-drawn ninth congressional district, something interesting is happening. Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, Bill Pascrell’s Republican opponent for the district’s congressional seat, is trying to court the Arab American vote. Over the weekend, Boteach called up AAI Board of Governors member Sherine El-Abd, who also serves as Chairwoman of the New Jersey Arab American Republican Caucus, and asked her to accompany him during his weekend walk-through of South Paterson.  Read More »

Arab American Political Participation Under Attack

Earlier this month, we wrote about a democratic primary in North Jersey between Bill Pascrell and Steve Rothman, in which we noted a new standard for Arab American engagement in the political process. Jim Zogby said Pascrell’s victory was evidence of an Arab American political "coming of age," showing that the community could come out in support of a candidate, get out the vote and help get them elected. That is precisely what the community did in New Jersey's 9th district for Bill Pascrell, and it is exactly why efforts have been mounted to vilify Arab American voters in New Jersey and beyond.  Read More »

John Zogby says Election is “The President’s to Lose”

The President’s performance as of late, according to analysis by AAI Board Member and Pollster John Zogby, has been relatively dismal overall. However, despite the unimpressive performance, Zogby says the President is “pretty much where he needs to be” election-wise. Overall, at this point, Zogby has not made a prediction of who will win the race but says the contest is “pretty much the President’s to lose.” Romney, he says, “will have a very difficult time broadening the [Republican] base.” Read More »

Political pollster John Zogby published two pieces recently on Forbes.com, indicating which factors will be most crucial in determining the winner of the upcoming presidential elections.
