Music and politics have always gone hand in hand. From Beethoven’s 3rd Symphony (originally titled “Bonaparte”) to Public Enemy’s Fight the Power, artists have used music to echo the hopes, dreams, and frustrations of the people. The Arab world is no exception; it’s no coincidence that the Egyptian revolution of 1952 coincided with the rise of Arab greats such as Abdel Halim Hafez, Umm Qultum, and Mohammed Abdel Wahab. Mohamed Khairullah, an Arab American mayor of Prospect Park, New Jersey, was sworn in on Sunday to his third term in office. The oath was administrated by Judge Hany Mawla, the first Arab and Muslim American to serve on New Jersey's Superior Court. Way to go New Jersey! Read More »
