Former City Council Member Amir Omar is racking up endorsements in his bid for Mayor of Richardson, Texas. In a recent vote, the city’s electorate moved to change the previous system of selecting a Mayor by way of the City Council. The city will now directly elect its leader by popular vote. Unlike so many of his contemporaries, Anthony understood that the story of the region didn't begin the day he got the assignment. His reporting reflected a historian's appreciation for context. More than that, Anthony's work was also distinguished by a poet's sense of texture. He wrote not with an ego, but with an eye for detail and an ear for the voices he heard. Of Palestinian and Iranian decent, Republican Amir Omar became the first Muslim to be elected to the Richardson, Texas City Council last May. Omar earned a victory over incumbent Dennis Stewart to occupy the 7th seat of the Richardson City Council.
