Last week, AAI published the Congressional Scorecard for the 111th Congress. This signature publication is a critical resource for voters and activists, detailing the positions taken by each member of Congress on issues of particular importance to the Arab American community and many others – from their stances on the Goldstone Report to protecting civil liberties. Yesterday, a fringe organization known as the West Virginia Conservative Foundation, launched a bigoted attack ad on Congressman Nick Rahall. Congressman Rahall has served West Virginia's 3rd District with distinction for 34 years and is the longest serving Arab American in Congress. The ad is a disgraceful effort at "Arab-baiting" a great elected official and we must not let it work. Read More »

The Boston Palestine Film Festival (BPFF) will kick off its 4th annual series this Friday, October 1st, with an opening reception and film at the Museum of Fine Arts. On the face of it, it may seem like just another cool series to attend this fall (and that much it certainly is), but the journey that led the Boston Palestine Film Festival to where it is today is one of the most inspiring testaments to the extraordinary power of a few committed activists to bring people together. Ron Walters, professor, author and activist, died last week. His passing is a great loss. When I moved to Washington in 1978 to run the Palestinian Human Rights Campaign, one of my earliest supporters and friends was Ron Walters. He was a professor at Howard University, an advisor to the Congressional Black Caucus and one of the leading intellectual forces who helped the civil rights movement realize its potential to advance black political empowerment.
