Kareem Shora, Senior Policy Advisor, U.S. Department of Homeland Security

Congratulations to Kareem Shora, who has served as ADC’s National Executive Director for ten years. His efforts on behalf of Arab Americans is greatly appreciated, and AAI looks forward to working closely with him in his new capacity as Senior Policy Advisor for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Earlier this year, Mr. Shora was sworn in by Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano as a member of the Homeland Security Advisory Council (HSAC).

Mr. Shora has spoken about civil rights, civil liberties and immigration policy with many national and international media outlets including the Wall Street Journal, Voice of America, the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Associated Press, and the Chicago Tribune, and is a frequent guest on Al Jazeera. Born in Damascus, Syria, Mr. Shora is a native of Huntington, West Virginia, fluent in Arabic, and holds a Doctor of Jurisprudence (JD) degree from the West Virginia University (WVU) College of Law and the LLM specialty in International Legal Studies from the American University Washington College of Law.

In his new capacity, Mr. Shora will be welcomed into AAI’s growing Arab American Leadership Council which since 1989 has been the country’s only network that brings together Americans of Arab descent who serve in elected, appointed and other government positions.
