Arab American Heads Up Obama Effort in Scott County, IA
Posted on Thursday June 21, 2007
AAI member Mehdi Alhassani is currently working as a field organizer for Barack Obama’s presidential campaign in Scott County, IA. The county consists of both urban areas, including Davenport, and rural ones. Alhassani is a former member of AAI’s Youth Council and a recent graduate of George Washington University.
He is working for the Obama campaign, he says, because, “among all other major candidates, [Obama] not only has an unparalleled combination of intellect and empathy, but also the ability to inspire Americans to reengage in our democracy and bring forth a new era in which partisan politics does not interfere with the crucial work of our government.”
Alhassani recently spent nine months in Jordan as a Fulbright Fellow studying ongoing Iraqi migration to Jordan and has served as a citizen ambassador on a State Department delegation to Europe. He has additional experience in public service through internships at the Labor Department, State Department and White House. Alhassani believes his policy background, particularly as a Fulbright scholar, helped him to get his position as a field director in Iowa.
Congratulations on the campaign position and best of luck, Mehdi!
