Bush Names Shalala to Co-Lead Walter Reed Probe
Posted on Wednesday February 28, 2007
President Bush has named former Secretary of Health and Human Services Donna Shalala to serve as the co-lead of an investigative probe of problems at the nation’s military and veterans’ hospitals. Shalala, the first Arab American appointed to a cabinet post, will lead investigation alongside former Sen. Bob Dole in the wake of disclosures about abysmal care at Walter Reed Medical Center.
During her tenure under the Clinton Administration, Shalala was described by the Washington Post as “one of the most successful government managers of modern times.” She currently serves as president of the University of Miami.
AAI congratulates former Secretary Shalala on the appointment, and supports this effort to ensure quality health care for the U.S. troops and servicemen who have sacrificed much for their country.
