Arab-American organizations around the country took part in the 10th annual National Arab American Service Day on Saturday, May 17. Organized each year by the National Network of Arab American Communities (NNAAC), the event brings Arab Americans together for a day of giving back to their communities.

This year there were 24 service projects nationwide, including an Arab American Institute partnership with the Neighborhood Farm Initiative (NFI) in Washington, DC. Two shifts of volunteers prepared  a community garden for planting—weeding, mulching and digging holes in a farm in the Fort Totten neighborhood, where residents learn to grow their own fresh, local produce. NFI donates its entire harvest to the local Fort Totten community and organizations, such as Thrive DC.

Arab-American volunteers enjoyed the beautiful spring weather as they got involved by helping the local community.
