On April 29th, Pamela Geller, Robert Spencer, and other anti-Muslim hate-mongers held the so-called “Jessica Mokdad Human Rights Conference” in Dearborn; an event that exploits the tragedy of a murdered Arab American girl to spread Islamophobia. In response, the Arab American Institute (AAI) put together a counter-event with local organizations to combat Islamophobia. Elected officials, including Congressmen John Conyers, Jr. and Hansen Clarke, and community leaders attended our event, disrupting the anti-Muslim narrative Spencer and Geller sought to spread and emphasizing that Dearborn stood against bigotry.

After our event, Omar Tewfik and I (from AAI’s communications team) tried to attend the anti-Muslim conference to cover what was being said there. Not only were we barred from entering, but we also watched as virtually all Arab American women (the people this conference was supposed to be about) were turned away. And to top things off, we caught Pamela Geller telling a few blatant lies. The following video tells the amusing and eye-opening story of our visit to their conference:
