AAI Supports Repairing Our Immigration System

Posted on May 05, 2010

Arab Americans have actively supported efforts towards comprehensive immigration reform, and know firsthand of the profiling that will begin if Arizona’s new state law takes effect in August. We are concerned about the climate of fear and intolerance that is clouding the legitimate policy debate on fixing our immigration system. AAI supports the Real Enforcement with Practical Alternatives for Immigration Reform (REPAIR) proposal drafted by the Senate Democratic leadership, and urges our members to tell Congress and the Administration of our support for REPAIR.

But it was not only the timing of the announcement, during Vice President Biden’s visit, that was so counterproductive to recent efforts to begin ‘proximity talks’ between Israelis and Palestinians. The substance of the plan, coupled with Israel’s recent provocative announcements claiming their “rights” in Hebron, Bethlehem, and the Jordan Valley, undermines the very goal of any peace efforts.

Vice President Biden, Secretary Clinton, and other senior...

Tell Congress to Vote NO on H. Res. 867

Posted on November 03, 2009

The Arab American Institute opposes H. Res. 867, a resolution calling on President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hilary Clinton to oppose the endorsement or consideration of the ‘Report of the United Nations Fact Finding Mission on the Gaza Conflict’ (The Goldstone Report) in multilateral fora.

H. Res. 867 incorrectly defines the mandate under which the investigation into human rights violations was conducted; distorts the basis for the UN investigation and the findings of the Report; compromises U.S. leadership and the role of Congress on matters of accountability and transparency in international human rights law; and damages...
