ARAB AMERICAN SERVICE DAY
Storytelling & Bookmaking Workshop

On May 14th, the Arab American Institute Foundation and the Network of Arab American Professionals hosted a storytelling and bookmaking workshop for local youth, as part of the National Arab American Service Day. Service Day is hosted in conjunction with National AmeriCorps Week to further the discussion and growth of national service in the public realm.

The workshop was hosted by 826DC, a literacy advocacy group co-founded by renowned author Dave Eggers (A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius). Over the course of two hours students created, illustrated and published a story sprung from their collective imagination, combining group storytelling with individual creativity. Each student left with his or her own published book, made on the spot with the help of 826 and our community volunteers.

Please see the following video for a demonstration of a similar workshop at 826 Boston: http://vimeo.com/6072727

The workshop took place on May 14th and it was a fun, educational, and unforgettable experience, and we thank everyone who participated!
